Xournal++ is a very good note taking app. The website is https://xournalpp.github.io/. I see it as a direct replacement to windows journal. Some advantages of Xournal++ are as follows:
Its open source with a GPL 2.0 license Has PDF Annotation support Written in C++ so very fast compared to some other Java based tools Available for Windows, Linux, Mac and also a limited functionality mobile version as of 2025 Has excellent stylus smoothness and support.
